Athletic Trainer Office Hours

Current registered MIT students who meet these three criteria:

(1) Are active on the official rosters of DAPER’s Club Sports program.

(2) Have designated a PCP at MIT Medical

–Your PCP from home will remain your “go to” for medical advice; however,

–Your MIT PCP will provide on-campus health care support and advice.

–This is covered under your MIT Student Medical Plan.  The cost  is included in your tuition and provides you with access to most services at MIT Medical at no additional charge

(3) Have activated a HealthELife account at MIT Medical.

–Just ask any front desk member at MIT Medical to sign you up. They’ll ask you a few identifying questions, and then send you an email with instructions for activating your account

TYPICAL SEMESTER

– Appointments will occur Monday  through Friday during a 1pm-8pm EST window

– Service schedule may be changed or cancelled when DAPER hosts special events and institute holidays

Club sport student-athletes must have a valid COVID Pass to access in-person appointments.

If you are experiencing a medical emergency while on-campus please call 617-253-1212 from a cell phone or 100 from a campus phone. If you are experiencing a medical emergency while off campus please call 911. If you would like to be seen at MIT Medical Urgent Care please call 617-253-1311. 24 hour phone assistance is available through MIT Medical by calling 617-253-4481.

NOTE: Though we will do our best to accommodate requests, please be advised that your appointment may be declined, cancelled, delayed, interrupted, or cut short; as priority is given to;

(1) Urgent/ acute injuries

–If someone comes in from practice with an acute injury, we will prioritize his/her care.

–Participants receiving/needing care for concussions will receive priority.

(2) Fairness and equity

–This system shall be used to request single appointments only.

–To ensure that all participants; and all programs have access, we may limit the number of slots made available to any individual and/or a team.

–Active participants on programs preparing for critical contests will receive priority (e.g. post-season)

(3) Participants on in-season teams

–Appointments for off-season season participants may be “bumped”.

(4) Staff availability

–Your appointment may be shifted to another staff member’s schedule.

–Schedule changes may result in rescheduling your appointment.

–Changes related to a staff member’s other duties may occur.

Within the scope of this service, the staff supporting the Athletic Trainer Office Hours are committed to providing the highest quality healthcare possible.

The Athletic Trainer staff shall provide care under the direction providers from MIT Medical.

Recommendations and opinions from off-campus medical providers will be considered; however, MIT maintains the “final say” on health & safety issues related to eligibility to participate within its sports programs.

Each staff member is;

–Certified by the Board of Certification and

–Licensed by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Board of Registration in Allied Health.

As available appointments are not listed for particular staff member, student selecting a time will work with the staff that is available at that time

A “walk-in” service; an appointment is needed

A “full-service” Athletic Training Room. So participants will not be provided with;

–Assistance with stretching, taping, wrapping, or bracing before practice

–Sideline coverage at games

–Long-term rehabilitation (post injury and/or surgery)

–Pre-participation medical screening/ physical and functional exams

A substitute for Emergency Care, Urgent Care, or care provided by your PCP

–Those needing immediate medical assistance should call MIT Police at 617-253-1212.

–Participants who are concerned with his/her degree of pain and/or loss of function, are to check-in for an initial evaluation/examination at MIT Medical’s Urgent Care Unit.
